Rae-Yen Song 宋瑞渊
Rae-Yen Song (born 1993, Edinburgh) studied at Glasgow School of Art and is now based in Glasgow. Encompassing a wide range of media, Song’s practice explores self-mythology as survival tactic. Their practice spans drawing, sculpture, installation, costume, video, sound, performance, and family collaboration. Richly autobiographical in nature, Song’s work explores belonging, identity, foreignness and survival through world-building, fantasy and storytelling. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Aspex, Portsmouth (2023), and Dundee Contemporary Arts (2021). Song was shortlisted for the 2022 Margaret Tait Award and recent residencies include the Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh (2019-21), and Hospitalfield, Arbroath (2019).
